Why Choose the RAM 1500 Sport?
There's no shortage of mid-size pickup trucks available in Canada, but the Ram 1500 holds a special place in drivers' affections thanks to its combination of capable performance, comfortable interior, and strikingly solid exterior.
There's also no shortage of trims available within the 1500 range, but out of the seven versions for sale in 2020, it's the Sport which is perhaps the most interesting - and it's one that's exclusively for Canadian drivers.
Cab Formats
The 1500 Sport offers two cab configurations, both of them with four doors. The smaller Crew Cab can be combined with truck beds of either 193cm or 170cm, while the larger Quad Cab includes extra storage behind the seating and is available with the larger bed only.
Exterior and Styling
The most notable styling difference for the Sport trim is that the front and rear bumpers are finished with the same paintwork as the rest of the body, rather than the moulded black plastic found in other versions. Add to this the large 20" aluminum wheels, plus LED lighting both front and rear, and the Sport is one impressive-looking truck.
Engine Options
The Sport trim offers two powerful engine choices, both paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The standard engine is a mighty 5.7L HEMI V8 mill pumping out 395 horsepower and 410lb-ft of torque. That's an impressive output by any standards, but its not the only trick the Ram 1500 Sport has up its sleeve. New for 2020 is a 3.0L EcoDiesel turbo model which drops the ponies down to 260hp, but increases the torque to an impressive 480lb-ft. With these two choices, the Sport has all bases covered, whether you're looking for raw horsepower or hard-working torque.
Payload and Towing
Payload and towing are a traditional strength of Ram, and the 2020 1500 Sport doesn't disappoint. Up to 1,052kg can be carried in the truck bed, while the V8 version of the Sport can haul up to 7,246kg in trailer weight behind.
Interior Technology
As standard, the 1500 Sport features an upgraded 8.4" touchscreen running the well-respected Uconnect4 multimedia software, complete with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, and navigation. If that generous screen isn't large enough, there's a huge 12" version available as an option.
The instrument cluster is built around a fully customisable 7" digital instrument display, which provides dynamic information covering all aspects of the vehicle as you drive. Other standard features include push-button ignition and a reverse camera. And as a final interior bonus, the cabin is equipped with active noise cancellation technology for a quieter, smoother drive that's less tiring over long hours of driving.
