What We Know about the 2022 Jeep Renegade So Far
What We Know about the 2022 Jeep Renegade So Far
Posted on October 7, 2021
The Jeep Renegade is a perfect example of the automaker's approach to modern SUVs, combining rugged performance with high comfort for confident urban driving. And while the Renegade is already one of the best-selling subcompact SUVs on the market, Jeep aims to conquer new heights with an all-new 2022 Jeep Renegade release. What will be the key changes? Read our 2022 Renegade review to see what we know so far.
Revised Exterior
From the preview 'spy shots' already seen, it's clear that the front end of the Renegade has been extensively redesigned for the 2022 release. The trademark Jeep circular headlights appear to remain, but the surrounds are now squarer and bolder, matching a larger and more prominent front grille. What's more, a new hole in the front bodywork suggests an extra sensor or camera, leading to speculation that the active driver assist package may be about to receive an upgrade.
Improved Interior
What's more certain is that the interior is set to receive a larger infotainment screen and improved controls layout, according to leaked photos that have been widely circulated. It's also thought that the 2022 Renegade will borrow the updated, sporty steering wheel from its Compass stablemate, helping give the cabin a refreshed look and feel.
Under the Hood
No major changes are expected compared to the 2021 model and other recent Renegade releases. It's likely that the same two engine choices will be offered, with the entry level consisting of a 2.4L gas engine making 180 horsepower and 184lb-ft of torque, passed to all-wheel drive through a nine-speed automatic transmission.
However, for those looking for even more pep in a subcompact, a 1.3L turbo option delivers a slightly lower 160 hp but an impressive 210lb-ft, enough to propel the Renegade over even the most challenging of terrains.
Infotainment Technology
Current Renegade models offer either a 7" infotainment touchscreen or a larger 8.4" one, but the new centre console seems to leave space for a yet bigger design. Expect to see a 10.25" or larger display on offer, even if only as an added upgrade. The 2021 Renegade offers either a black and white 3.5" instrument cluster display or a full-colour 7" version, and it'd be no surprise to see the larger one included as standard for 2022.
2022 Renegade Release Date and Pricing
No firm release date has been set so far, but from the increasing number of tests being conducted most experts predict the new Renegade will hit the streets either late in 2021 or early in 2022. Pricing is likely to see only minor rises from the current 2021 range, which in Canada starts at $27,595 for the Sport FWD trim and tops out at just $34,745 for the high-end Trailhawk Elite 4x4 model.
2022 Jeep Renegade Review: The Verdict
From the details gleaned so far, it seems that the 2022 Jeep Renegade release will comprise a series of incremental improvements rather than a revolutionary update. Nonetheless, if Jeep make the changes that are widely anticipated, the 2022 Renegade release seems sure to maintain the lineup's place at the top of the subcompact SUV table.
