Summer RAM Truck Maintenance Tips

Summer is here and that means more summer adventures in your RAM truck. Summer in Canada usually also means having to be prepared for a variety of weather scenarios that could strike without warning (snow in June, anyone?). In order to get the best performance out of every trip, we at Wille Dodge have consulted with our expert technicians and come up with these 5 simple truck maintenance tips to better enjoy summer in Canada.
Tire Pressure
Keep your tires inflated correctly. Over inflated tires have a higher risk of exploding when it's hot out. Air inside the tire will heat up and expand, expanding the tires and eventually bursting. While this sounds like potentially a fun science experiment for the kids, it's a costly fix that can be avoided by regularly checking your tire pressure.
Electrical
Be sure to check your electrical components for any corrosion before setting out on any lengthy adventure. Over the winter, your RAM truck was exposed to salt and chemicals on the roads that could have caused some corrosion, not to mention a mess. Take your truck in for a quick maintenance check up here at Wille Dodge and we'll ensure everything is working properly.
Batteries
Summer heat can kill a vehicle's battery. This is because heat speeds up the chemical processes in the battery and causes the electrolytes to evaporate faster, in turn causing the battery to lose its ability to hold a charge. Check and clean the battery terminals regularly to help extend your RAM battery's life.
Engine Belts
RAM engines take quite a beating while they're busy tackling all the tough tasks you ask of them year-round. Ensure your engine belts are in good repair and free from cracks, tears, and other types of wear and tear to save you a lot of time and money later on down the road. And remember, if your engine belts need replacing, come see the experts here at Wille Dodge.
H2 Cooling System
The leading cause of breakdowns due to summer heat is, unsurprisingly, overheating. The coolant in your truck is critical in ensuring that the engine stays at its ideal operating temperature. Along the same lines, your air conditioning and heat rely on the antifreeze in order to work properly. Be sure to check your antifreeze to water ratio - too much water will thin out the antifreeze and prevent it from working properly.
